When it comes to dog beds, there's a wealth of choice for pet owners. Regardless of the animal's breed, age, temperament, size or health problems, you can easily find a bed which perfectly suits their needs and will ensure they get a good night's rest. Here's a quick guide to some of the main options available.

Round, bolster beds are a popular choice with many pet owners. These are particularly well suited to those who often catch their dogs circling around before snuggling into their bed when they take a nap, as this bolster bed provides them with a very cosy, 'nest' like place to sleep. They provide the dog with a sense of security and so are great for pets with a nervous disposition. These beds tend to be overstuffed, for extra comfort and warmth.

The half hooded dog bed is another option for dogs who like to be enclosed when they sleep. This type of bed is usually more suitable for smaller dog breeds. It comes with a standard bed which has a cushion 'roof' that provides some extra security for the pet.

For the aging dog whose joints and bones are a bit sore, memory foam beds are an excellent choice. These beds can help to ease some of the stiffness and discomfort that is often associated with muscle and joint pain. So if your dog suffers from hip dysplasia, arthritis or is simply getting on in age, a memory foam bed could be a good option. To make the bed even more comfortable, you can add a down comforter, which will add some warmth.

Many younger dogs love to chew on anything and everything around the house, including their bed. Wicker dog beds tend to be the worst choice for this kind of dog, as they can easily be chewed through in a matter of hours. For aggressive chewers, there are special beds that are made from soft, but highly durable materials. The materials used to make the bed are also non-toxic; a very important point to note for anyone who owns a dog who loves to chew on things.

In smaller homes, dog beds can take up too much space and create a very cramped feeling in the room. However, corner beds which fit snugly into any right angle corner of the house are the perfect solution. These beds provide the dog with enough room to sleep comfortably without taking up much needed space in the room.
